Goal Notes
Your child participated in our goal for last week, which was to be on task. They should have brought their goal note home for you to sign tonight! I would like to have that goal note back to me tomorrow!
Multiplication Unit
Today we took a pre-test for multiplication. In this unit we are focusing on a few different things.
I will be updating the math portion of my website soon to include games for multiplication, check back at the end of the week!
- Interpreting the products of whole numbers
- Multiplying within 100
- Applying properties of operations to solve multiplication problems
- Solving two step word problems involving multiplication
- Increasing our fluency in our multiplication facts with single digit factors

Math Fact Fluency
As we are working on multiplication, we will be working on increasing the fluency of our multiplication facts. It is important that students first understand the concept of multiplication before they work on their fluency. We will be working on the concept of multiplication at school and then we will be working on fluency. The goal by the end of third grade is that students will be able to answer any 1 digit by 1 digit multiplication fact within three seconds (for example 8 x 4= 32).
I am attaching the strategies that we will talk through as a class to help us increase our fluency of our facts. These strategies focus on making sure the student understands the concepts and properties of multiplication. The goal is that students will be able to transfer these strategies over into problems that they haven't seen before such as 30 x 30.
